WebPhone engine support grid

To be able to take out the most from today browser capabilities, the Mizu Webphone has multiple VoIP engines built-in to cover all possible platforms (OS/browser combination) with high quality VoIP regardless of the operating system and the browser used by the users connecting via your preferred SIP server or PBX. By default the webphone will automatically select the “best” engine on all platforms.

Our goal is to disturb the users as less as possible, and to avoid any unnecessary browser popups. For example the Java engine will be offered only if Java is already installed in the browser so the webphone will not ask the users to install it (unless this is the single possibility such as user using Linux with an old browser). WebRTC is available in latest Chrome and Firefox, however if a better engine is found, then the webphone might not select WebRTC so there is no need for protocol conversion on the server side. Direct SIP/RTP connection is always better. Unlike other web sip solutions, we have an optimal engine for all browsers.

The below grid is just a high level overview for the engines mapping on the most important platforms. However the final engine selection depends on many other factors such as configuration, engine availability, user preferences, history or previous statistics. Other platforms are also supported such as Chrome OS, Chromium, BSD, UC browser, QT Web and many more. Also note that only the two most preferred engine per platform is listed here, but the engine selection can be also influenced by others such as webphone configuration, your VoIP server configuration and user networking environment.
